From Home Businesses | Improve Your Online Store’s Branding and Customer Service

So you have an online store, and you are aware that this gives you an edge over your storefront competitors selling the same kinds of products.  However, more and more people are coming to this style of selling now, and there is more competition every day, a lot of it cutting edge in terms of technological knowledge, monetary capital and existing branding.  So what are you to do to raise the bar in your online store’s branding and customer service?  Here’s one suggestion: get personalised chocolates made up with your store name and logo.  (Don’t have a logo?  Unless your name is extremely catchy and you are succeeding already in the branding department, it’s probably time to get a unique and distinctive logo…)

Why personalised chocolates, you may ask?  It may seem pansy, but just think back to the last time you purchased something online.  Was it wrapped securely and presented nicely?  Did it include a token branded by the store for instance a brochure or a fridge magnet or a business card?  Did it contain a nice little free gift?  Chances are, that even though you expect the first two, you don’t always expect a free little gift – but I’m sure you agree that it’s nice to receive.  I recently bought something from an online store and it came with a free chocolate that had “thank you” printed on it.  Now, what if the chocolate could have had the store’s logo or name moulded on it?  I’m sure it would have stuck out in my mind even more!

Things that we can smell and eat create memories in our olfactory system (the part of the brain that deals with long-term memories associated with scents and tastes) and if you can somehow get your brand stuck in there, you’re doing well.  Why are the food companies like Coca Cola, Cadbury, MacDonalds so successful?  Because pleasurable scent and taste memories create such a long-term memory, that people are likely to think of it again when they want a pleasurable experience.

So I’m putting it out there today.  By all means, include a brochure, include a business card, include a fridge magnet.  Then pop in a business personalised chocolate and wrap your product ready for the sending and… you’ll be well on your way to working your brand, and your standard of customer service, into the minds of customers everywhere.
