From Home Businesses | I Want To Start Making Money From Google

Let’s say I’ve got an online business, and I want to start making money from Google.  Doing my research, I find that Google has a handy new program that can get my website onto the search engine results – free of charge!  Isn’t that great?  My website could be a roaring success in no time!  I congratulate myself, pat myself on the back, and submit my site to Google.  Then I go make myself a tuna sandwich.

When I come back, I am surprised to notice that Google still hasn’t posted my site on the search results.  How odd.  Alas, perhaps I should give it more time.  I am, after all, a notoriously fast tuna sandwich-maker.  But when I come back, several weeks of tuna sandwiches later, my site still hasn’t posted.  What is wrong with Submit Google?

What’s wrong may or may not be Google’s fault; Google may, after all, be taking its good old time in posting my site.  But if my site doesn’t have any good links to it, then nobody’s going to see my site in the listings anyway.  That’s because these search results are listed in order of relevance – and the web crawler determines relevance by popularity.  A cheap high school trick, but online, popularity really can indicate useful information much faster than any other rating system.  This means that if my site doesn’t have a lot of links to it, it’s going to be listed somewhere in the two-thousands on that search result list.  And few people are willing to wade through that much just to find my site.

So, what can I do?  Well, the best thing I can do is to improve my site.  If my information is really useful, up-to-date, and meets the needs of my target audience, then it won’t take as much to spread my name around.  Once people start to cite my work, I’ll get onto the search engine results on my own – without having to use Submit Google.  And I’ll be a lot closer to real visibility, too.
