So, you just bought a bunch of used vending machines, but your machines aren’t making you any money sitting around your house or gathering dust in the garage, you need to get started and get those machines working for you as soon as possible. You have a couple options available when it comes to placing machines, you can work on placing them yourself or you can hire an individual or business to locate them for you. Professional locators are a mixed bag, it’s a real crap shoot whether you will get your money’s worth or not. Before committing to a locator find a vending chat group and see if you can get a referral recommendation. Not all locaters are scam artists, but enough of them are so you need to be careful. I would only pay for a couple locations at a time, it’s normal and expected to pay up front, but don’t give them too much. These locating services charge about $50 a location, some of them will give you guarantees like guaranteeing a certain income level or insuring against getting kicked out.
On way to make it easier to place your machines is to affiliate with either a national or a local non-profit. Some non-profits already have vending programs set up, but you could also try to set one up on your own if you have a favorite charity. The way it works is that you give the charity $1 a month per machine and you put their sticker on your machine. This is a perfect symbiotic relationship, the non-profits make a tidy little profit to continue their good works and this gives you an in with business owners.
I’ve never tried this but I’ve heard of other venders having success with hiring kids to place machines for them. For example, you could hire scouts, junior high band members, or a church group looking to earn money for their organization. You could either pay them per location or work out a similar deal to the $1 per vending machine per month.
No matter which route you choose, you need to take action. Make a commitment to get those machines on location and turning a profit.
